Well, the artist got a big break in his court case involving the city of Boston, but he&#8217;s not out of the woods yet. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said they dropped 14 vandalism charges against the Los Angeles street artist, who is best known for creating the <em>Hope <\/em>poster for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. Court papers filed Tuesday revealed that lawyers didn&#8217;t have enough evidence to prove that it was Fairey himself who placed stickers on signposts and other public property in Roxbury, Mass.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The district attorney for Suffolk County said he still has the option of pursuing 13 other vandalism-related charges against the artist.<\/p>\n<p>Fairey&#8217;s lawyer Tuesday disputed the numbers, saying 13 charges, not 14, had been dismissed and that his client was still fighting 15 more, according to a report in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local\/breaking_news\/2009\/06\/charges_dropped_1.html\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Globe.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re happy that those cases have been dismissed, and we&#8217;re looking forward to others being dismissed as well that rely on the same set of facts that these did,&#8221; the artist&#8217;s lawyer was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Fairey, 39, was originally arrested and <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/culturemonster\/2009\/02\/shepard-faire-2.html\" target=\"_blank\">charged with vandalism on February 6, 2009.<\/a> He is also in the midst of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.juxtapoz.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=5875&amp;Itemid=50\" target=\"_blank\">legal battle with the Associated Press,<\/a> which claims that the artist violated copyright laws when he used one of its photographs for his <em>Hope<\/em> poster. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Info via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowngallery.com\/blog\/post\/more-than-a-dozen-charges-against-shepard-fairey-dropped-in-boston-suit\" target=\"_blank\">Known Gallery blog. <\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" src=\"http:\/\/img.zemanta.com\/pixy.gif?x-id=56844b39-bde4-8977-bdee-fceb9f86decc\" \/><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a while since we had any updates on Shepard Fairey (Juxtapoz cover #82).
