UncategorizedComments Off on Talib feat Res on Colbert Nation (Get By)
Talib was on Colbert last night. We’re a fan of both of them, but their interaction was kinda weird. You can watch it here. Kweli performed “Cold Rain” from Gutter Rainbows.
He also did do a web-only version of “Get By” which was much better, imo. It’s not letting us embed, so here’s the link.

UncategorizedComments Off on Domino’s Song of the Day
He says, “I had to put my favorite song from my Favorite Hip-Hop album of all time, Public Enemy’s, It takes a Nation of Millions to hold us Back. I miss the days when songs of substance were the norm in Hip-Hop. Public Enemy single handedly educated an entire Hip-Hop generation. Public Enemy was perfect, Chuck D’s militant lyrics and powerful preacher like voice, Flavor Flav’s hype and comic relief and the Bomb Squad’s manic soundscape of drums and samples. In this song Chuck defiantly states, “to understand my demands, I gave a warning…I wanted the governor ya’ll plus the Warden to know, that I am innocent because I’m militant. Posing a threat, you bet its fucking up the government.”
Gotta wish the dads out there a Happy Father’s Day, esp, Jason (GP & UP fam). He has been schooling his son, Siah, on the hip hop classics. I’m not sure I could say “Afrika Bambaataa” when I was 4, let alone identify something like “Looking for the Perfect Beat”!
UncategorizedComments Off on Catchin’ up with Madukes
Finally got a chance to catch up with Madukes this morning…she is busy as usual. She’s concentrating on a new project called,The Rebirth of Detroit, and very excited about the next round of scholarships for the J Dilla Foundation beginning July 1st. She also mentioned that she’s going to have to pry Dilla’s MPC away from Illa J because it will hopefully be in the new African American Smithsonian set to open in the next year or so (this may be old news, but I was like, “WHAT?!”)
Fish just added a few more animations from my upcoming “listen and learn” show. He says, “Today’s storytellers are: SNOOP, BRYAN COONS, MIKE GIANT, AND AESOP ROCK. big hugs and thanks to KAMP GRIZZLY for making these.”
Super excited to see this…
An official release date – Sept. 23, 2011 – has been set for the Kashmere Stage Band documentary Thunder Soul, presented by Jamie Foxx. Now-Again Records has had an important role in Kashmere Stage Band’s musical legacy, beginning with Stones Throw’s The Funky 16 Corners, compiling and releasing their anthology Texas Thunder Soul, on up through the promotion of the forthcoming documentary.
