Mear One – Cognitive Dissonance

events Comments Off on Mear One – Cognitive Dissonance

mearIf you’re in SF, you won’t want to miss MEAR ONE’s largest show to date.  Opening Saturday, July 11th at White Walls Gallery 886 Geary St in SF from 7pm-11pm.

“Suppression and Oppression have left us disconnected from each other, ourselves, and the universe, from ancient wisdom, knowledge and understanding of all that was, is and could be. Yet despite what lies secret behind our vaults, I can’t escape the fact that we are all these subjects, they belong to all of us. For what has endured the whole of history is the idea of spirit linking us to a universal connection of a higher dimension, and our liberation exists somewhere within this context; the conscious solid world is but temporal in our eyes, castles made of sand await the hands of consciousness to reinterpret its matter.” – MEAR ONE

Culture Clash SF

events Comments Off on Culture Clash SF

Culture Clash SF was a veritable who’s who of Bay Area hip hop last night at the Regency Ballroom. Triple Threat (Apollo, Shortkut & Vinroc) took the top spot.  B-Love took some pics.

Dirty Bird brought out Pharoahe Monch & Too $hort

(crazy filming from the crowd courtesy of Boogie Brown)

Triple Threat surprised the crowd a personalized version of “Nuthin’ But A G-Thang”  and an appearance by Crystal Waters

(side of the stage filming is never the greatest, but you get the idea…)

Jane_Choe_FlyerIf you saw David Choe on Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, you may remember that the most kick-ass portion of the show was when they visit Choe’s parents.   Now his mom, Jane Choe, is having a show alongside Critter at Fifty24SF (218 Fillmore, SF).  I think we may have to leave our hermit’s cave this Saturday, as this is one of those shows you just don’t want to miss…

The 17th Annual Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in San Francisco, CA at the historic Nourse Auditorium Monday, January 20, 2014 from 7pm – 9pm.
Every year, Youth Speaks gathers the community to celebrate the ongoing life and legacy of Dr. King. Our celebration—Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—is not a reenactment of speeches, a slideshow, or a polite revue of well-honed platitudes.  It is a showcase of young people from throughout the Bay Area who have written, in their own voices, original works that grapple with the thoughts and work of the man, who are working to demand in their lifetimes—huge leaps into possibility, an ongoing commitment to love like a consuming fire.

Directed by Sean San Jose, this year’s Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration features performances by local Bay Area artists including: members of the San Francisco Jazz All Stars, Danez Smith, Dennis Kim, DJ Dion Decibels and Young Gifted and Black.
