Lateef always tells us about cool stuff
I remember having a very long conversation about Malcolm Gladwell with him, and he was one of the first people to tell me I had to hear Santigold. Anyway, I just talked to him this morning, and he said he’s been working on various Quannum songs and doing a bit of work with Emily Wells & Automator. I asked if there would be a new Latyrx record…perhaps when Lyrics Born is done promoting As U Were…
Here’s vid of Lateef with Automator at Yoshi’s:
And speaking of LB, he’ll be at the Harmony Festival this weekend:

Bobbito @ Summer Stage
Ah, we so wish we could have teleported to NYC to hear Bobbito/Laylo/Sake’s tribute to Fania Records. He’s rocking the classic logo shirt from their new collection. Photo is by legendary photographer Joe Conzo. Check out his collabo shirts with Sedgwick & Cedar.
Tonight Bobbito is at Camaradas (1st Ave bet 115/116 St) from 9pm-1am for his First Monday of Every Month residency. You can get the latest on his Facebook.
Berkeley Humane Society
The Berkeley Humane Society recently suffered a devastating fire in their facilities. We have donated/will be donating our proceeds from the Obey Awareness Adopt items to them. Please consider purchasing one of the items so they can get back on their feet and start adopting out animals again!
red, black and GREEN: a blues
Bamuthi is currently trying to gather funds to debut his new production…he says if they don’t reach their goal, they have to return all of the current pledges!
red, black and GREEN: a blues (rbGb), is a full-length, multimedia theater work that lands at the intersection of green economics and black psychology, written by USA Rockefeller Fellow Marc Bamuthi Joseph. Through a collaboration with installation artist Theaster Gates (Whitney Biennial 2010), Joseph uses music, movement, poetry, and gallery performance to jumpstart a conversation about collective responsibility in a climactic era of climate change.
red, black and GREEN: a blues uses performance to document the process of creating single day, eco-themed hip hop festivals in Black neighborhoods across the country. The festivals, called LIFE IS LIVING, are co-organized by Joseph’s Living Word Project and local partners with the specific intention of re-framing environmentalism in underused parks in under-served communities.
