More than 20 years after the release of the album, Kool Keith & Dan The Automator did their first live shows as Dr. Octagon at The Independent in San Francisco and the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. They were joined by DJ Qbert who was a critical part of the original album (and Del the Funky Homosapien in SF and Mix Master Mike in LA).
You have one more chance to catch them when they perform at Soundset in May which coincides with a deluxe box set of Dr. Octagonecologyst (Get on Down). Check out a couple of videos from the LA show (these had the least amount of people’s heads and singing along).

lookbookComments Off on Akomplice – Stand with Standing Rock
Akomplice has renewed their efforts to support the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline. They have donated profits from this capsule collection to the tribe. You can find pieces from the collection here.
The current route of construction takes the pipeline through many sacred religious and cultural sites, including burial sites of their ancestors. In addition, the pipeline is supposed to go under Lake Oahe, which would greatly jeopardize the tribe’s water supply. Water is life for all people and we must help to protect this finite resource. Other Native tribes and people of all races and creeds from around the world have traveled to show their support and stand along side the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. This is not the first time that the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has had their land seized by the government. In 1877 Congress removed the Sacred Black Hills from the Great Sioux Reservation. The U.S. Supreme Court later responded to this action of Congress by stating, “A more ripe and rank case of dishonorable dealings will never, in all probability, be found in our history.” Please join us and stand in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. We must help keep their land and water safe and demand that our government respect their sovereignty.

2016 has been a decidedly difficult year for most people…we would be remiss if we let the year pass without acknowledging the death of someone close to TGP.
We met Mike Pinkney aka Mike the Mover around 2002 when we were located in Berkeley. At the time, he was doing jobs for VC groups and a number of notable Bay Area families. He started out giving us extra furniture, and then he helped us move our warehouse to Oakland (and later Alameda). He had an extensive knowledge of wiring and completely rewired two separate offices for us.
Mike would always tell us stories about his life…growing up in New York with neighbors like Lena Horne, moving out west, working for much of his life at Pac Bell, and losing one of his children in a terrible accident. He was a biker who enjoyed having an Irish Coffee at Brennans. He survived cancer and rehabbed himself after a stroke.
We will miss his kindness and wit, rest easy Mike.
