We’ve been longtime internet admirers/IG stalkers of Sam Rodriguez, but we only recently realized that he liked the same music as us.  We were excited when he started to do images of QBert and Pam the Funkstress, but almost passed out when he revealed his designs for Hieroglyphics.  We’re hoping for shirts.  Follow him on Instagram @samrodriguezart

A bit of old yet still relevant news: If you notice these paintings at your homie’s house, please call Cotton Candy Machine 718.387.3844.  They are Amar Stewart’s paintings and were stolen from the Williamsburg gallery last month.  Sean (one of the gallery owners and  ZeroFriends homie) actually chased down a huge Basquiat painting (which was stolen but recovered).    If you want more of the details (and to see more of Amar Stewart’s excellent work), please check their blog.

Gang Starr – Hard to Earn 20th Anniversary

Uncategorized Comments Off on Gang Starr – Hard to Earn 20th Anniversary

hardtoearn

I remember when this came out… Gang Starr had just come off of Step in the Arena & Daily Operation, so I was thinking that perhaps this wouldn’t measure up.  Well, there was nothing to worry about.  20 years later, still sounds fresh.

The folks at UpNorthTrips and NahRight posted an interview with DJ Premier which goes through the making of the album track by track.    Great interview which details the history  of what was going on as well as some insight into his general production process.  The Vinylcologist also did a special mix using instrumentals from the album with the original samples.

Rest in Peace to Guru, the Gang Starr legacy is strong.
