Tender Knock is a term we coined to describe a particular type of sound that was spreading within R&B music in the late 80’s and early 90’s. A lot of our generation loved that sound, and at that time R&B began to be innovated using the drum machines that were typically used in Rap music. The “Tick & BOOM” of Rap was now being heard under sweet love songs of singers like Keith Sweat, Bobby Brown, Troop and lesser known artists like Anquette and Whistle. The sound is all about jeep beat style drums, tender melodies and heartfelt lyrics. The type of music teenagers would call up their local, late night Slow Jams show to dedicate to a special someone. – Whiz Ward
