Shepard Fairey is in SF this week, and he and his crew will be working on two murals to celebrate the opening of American Civics, a collaboration between Shepard and the estate of Jim Marshall.   The first mural (image on the left) is Cesar Chavez at 453 Hayes St.  The image Marshall took is after Chavez completed his 300 Mile March to Sacramento in support of farmworkers’ rights in 1966.

The image of Fannie Lee Chaney (right) will appear at 701 Alabama Street. Marshall’s photo is from 1964, on the day Chaney found out her son, James Chaney, and two friends were murdered by the Ku Klux Klan for registering African Americans to vote during Freedom Summer.

The opening of American Civics will be on Saturday, August 13th at the San Francisco Art Exchange, 458 Geary.  There will be a meet & greet from 2-4pm.

Obey’s new line for Fall has just dropped.
