Alex Pardee is constantly working on new projects. We can’t keep up. He just had a massive opening at Gallery 1988 in L.A (7020 Melrose Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90038). I’m sure more pics will pop up from the opening, but you can peep Alex’s blog for some background and inspiration.
Thanks to Sean at Zerofriends for keeping us excited about all the new stuff.
The Living Word Festival – Since 2001, The Living Word Festival has hosted an annual gathering of future thinking, urban-centered performers, educators and environmentalists. There are four great events in this year’s festival:
October 8 & 9 – Universes: Live from the Edge and an excerpt from Chinaka Hodge’s Mirrors in Every Corner. An incredible night of theater. Hip Hop does not dominate the body of content, and yet, hip hop is in the body of the players on stage. 8 PM :: Counterpulse :: 1310 Mission Street.
October 10 – LIFE is LIVING, a celebration of urban life and creativity. Featuring Pharoahe Monch, Kev Choice, and the Linda Tillery Heritage Choir. With the 3rd annual Estria
Graffiti Invitational, The Mighty 4 B-Boy Battle, a youth town hall on health care and much much more. Check lifeisliving.org for more information. 11 AM – 5 PM :: DeFremery Park in Oakland :: FREE.
October 17 – Brave New Voices Teachers Conference. Join Youth Speaks Executive Team members James Kass, Hodari Davis and Marc Bamuthi Joseph in a day of workshops and trainings centered on the Youth Speaks pedagogy and tools to maximize the 7-part HBO series Brave New Voices in the classroom. Attendees receive the HBO series DVD, lunch, and tangible teaching tools. Space is limited. Register now at www.youthspeaks.org. :: 10 AM – 2 PM :: Lick Wilmerding High School :: 755 Ocean Avenue :: San Francisco.
October 18 – Living Water: Youth Speak to Spirit. Co-hosted by Dennis Kim and Brandon Santiago. Join Bay Area youth from diverse backgrounds as they explore their relationship – or lack thereof – to the divine in their poetry. 2 PM :: Glide Memorial Church :: 330 Ellis Street :: San Francisco. FREE.
