We got word that Pam the Funkstress passed away this morning, and we are just overwhelmed. We met Pam many years ago while she was the DJ for The Coup. Not only super talented on the 1’s and 2’s, she was an accomplished chef, radio mix DJ on KBLX, and of course “Purple Pam”, the DJ for Prince. And above all, just a really cool person. She was the ultimate Turntable Queen, and she is going to be missed. Her mother had started a GoFundMe to help her family with medical bills when she was hospitalized last month, which will now probably help with final arrangements. You can donate here. Rest in paradise, Queen.
Shepard Fairey’s new show, Damaged, opens in L.A. on November 11th from 8pm-11pm. The location will be announced soon, but you must RSVP to attend. The work takes a critical look at the damaged state of politics, media, human rights, the global approach to the environment, and more.⠀⠀
The exhibition will showcase never-before-seen paintings, large scale sculptures, installations, etchings, retired stencils, a printed newspaper titled The Damaged Times, prints on wood and metal, and a display of various do-it-yourself tools of empowerment.
Shepard announced his band NØISE is releasing a 7″ at the opening reception, and he is also giving away posters (so you can make a stencil!) at the show:

Road to Baja is a non-profit organization that aims to benefit orphanages in Mexico’s Baja California region. The project began when a group of friends embarked on a 14-day excursion from the border of Tijuana to the southern tip of Cabo San Lucas. During the journey, the group was moved by the handmade grave markers that peppered the coast and documented what they saw. The photographs taken on the trip were compiled into an art book called Road to Baja and into the current OBEY Awareness Collection. OBEY is donating 100% of profits to the organization.
